Dogs and Desserts Event for Mid-Semester Paw-sitivity
Author Madeleine White ’29 is a Food Business Management major.
I don’t know about you, but I absolutely love dogs! Despite being a lifelong cat lover, I will never miss an opportunity to pet a dog. Our mental health club on campus, Active Minds, knows this to be true for a large majority of students on campus. So, to spread some paw-sitivity as midterms start to roll in, they collaborated with Ulster County SPCA to bring these furry friends to campus. This shelter works with Best Friends Animal Society to help prevent animal cruelty, giving them a safe environment to find a new home.
In partnership with the Teapot Club, refreshing cold brews were provided to sip along with your dessert. This event has been a fan favorite for students on campus. That’s right, the Active Minds Club hosts this event about once every semester. Who would pass up this opportunity? It is a great way to socialize with young dogs, and older dogs that need some love. It also allows the local shelter to get names out there of animals that are looking for their fur-ever home.
As much as I wish I could take all of the animal’s home with me, I am very thankful to have the op-purr-tunity to attend these events. I wonder what kind of events and animals they will come up with next! Bunnies and Biscotti? Parrots and Pastries? Ferrets and Funnel Cakes? Whatever it may be, make sure you stay up to date on our school’s Instagram, so you never miss the opportunity to see pictures of these cute animals!
