Author Madeleine White ’29 is a Food Business Management major.
CIA’s Hospitality Club had an amazing opportunity to explore the historic Carlyle Hotel in New York City. Receiving a private tour of the beautiful rooms, kitchens, and dining rooms offered at this building steeped in history. During the tour, club members learned about the building’s start and changes made since it opened in 1930. They got to meet the executive chef, front-of-house manager, and so many staff members that make the hotel’s remarkable service possible. The visit was led by a wonderful tour guide, who explained all the career paths you can take in this industry.
Not only is the hotel known for its excellent service, but it is also a well-known destination for tourists and sightseers. Many artists have touched the hotel, aiming to highlight New York City life. They even had their own documentary made, Always at the Carlyle, which should be on everyone’s must-watch list. Even a quick internet search will show how beautiful the building is but seeing it in person is a completely different experience!
CIA’s Hospitality Club arranges these tours, and they are open to all CIA students. The club also creates monthly events where you can meet like-minded students, enjoy crafts and treats, and learn more about tours like this one. Experiences like these are great networking events for students and showcase the many career opportunities available within this industry. Plus, it’s a chance for students to get off campus and explore! The Hospitality Club is always open to suggestions from fellow students on where to go next.
