Paul Carmichael ’02

Executive Chef, Momofuku

Chef Paul Carmichael—a guest judge on the new Netflix series Next Gen Chef—is executive chef at Momofuku, where he oversees restaurant operations across the company, including Kabawa and Bar Kabawa in New York City. He previously led the kitchen at Momofuku Seiobo in Sydney, Australia, which was one of Food & Wine’s World’s Best Restaurants in 2020, among other accolades. He began his career in New York City, cooking with renowned chefs at wd~50, Aquavit, and Má Pêche. He also worked in Puerto Rico at Perla. Born and raised in Barbados, Carmichael graduated from the Culinary Institute of America, where his senior thesis focused on the food and history of the Caribbean, a theme that continues to shape his culinary approach and honor his heritage.
