Dr. Amelia Asperin

Professor—Business Management

Dr. Amelia Asperin is a professor of Business Management in the Food Business School at CIA. She draws on her broad background in hospitality and foodservice education to prepare students for careers that blend business leadership with industry expertise. The courses she teaches emphasize academic rigor and professional standards, guiding future managers and entrepreneurs in the hospitality and food business fields. Among the courses she has taught since joining CIA in 2021 are Hospitality Law, Foundations of Hospitality Management, Strategic Management in the Hospitality Industry, Managing Technology in the Hospitality Industry, and Research Methods in Hospitality. In addition, she serves as the faculty adviser for Eta Sigma Delta, the only baccalaureate honor society on campus.

Before joining CIA, Dr. Asperin was an associate professor and program coordinator of Hospitality and Tourism Management at North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND, where she received awards for teaching excellence, program development, and laboratory renovation projects.

She previously was a research scientist at the University of Southern Mississippi focusing on school nutrition and held multiple instructional and research roles as well as graduate management roles with university dining at Kansas State University during her graduate training.

Her professional experience also includes management and training positions in hotels and restaurants in the United States and the Philippines, as well as teaching and supervisory roles in higher education and foodservice operations.

In addition to the Foodservice Systems Management Education Council, Dr. Asperin is also a member of the National Restaurant Association and the International Council on Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Education. She has been published in refereed academic journals such as the Journal of Hospitality & Tourism Cases, International Journal of Hospitality Management, Journal of Culinary Science and Technology, Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Education, and Journal of Foodservice Management and Education among others.

Outside the classroom, she enjoys journaling about her travels, trying new restaurants across different cuisines, and cooking for family and friends.
