The producers of NPR’s most popular radio program, Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me, also host a
weekly podcast called How to do
Everything, which answers listeners’ questions in a humorous way.
For an early September episode, they called upon
the mathematical expertise of CIA Associate
Professor Michael Nothnagel. Noticing that Christmas decorations seem to be
displayed earlier and earlier every year, they were looking for a statistical
model to predict if there will come a time when the following year’s
decorations go up even before the current year’s holiday. Nothnagel, who
teaches Culinary Math, crunched the numbers. Listen
to the podcast for the answer.
More than half a million people download How to Do Everything each week.
