Dr. J.J.’s Semesterly Late-Night Breakfast

What Have the Busy Bees Been Up To?

Author Annie B. Milostan ’25 is a Baking and Pastry Arts major.

For those of you who may not know who Dr. J.J. Manley is, he’s the senior associate dean of campus life and student development. He can often be found on campus planning and participating in events such as his famous Lasagna Dinner, Late-Night Breakfast, and the many whitewater rafting trips. He loves working with students and looks forward to spending time working with the Busy Bees whenever he gets the chance.

Here on campus, we have a group of students called the Busy Bees. These students help Dr. J.J. with different events on campus like the Chili Cook-Off, Pizza Cook-Off, and so much more. They also volunteer off campus at Sparrows Nest and other charity events. This semester, I had the chance to attend Dr. J.J. and his Busy Bees’ Late-Night Breakfast—held once a semester, and wow, what an experience! Who doesn’t love a late-night breakfast? Picture this: it’s 7 p.m., you’ve crammed for exams all week, and your stomach’s growling so loud, it’s about to get its own GPA. That’s when the magic of a $2 late-night breakfast comes in! For just two bucks, you can devour fluffy pancakes, crispy bacon, and eggs cooked to perfection. Seriously, it feels like a warm hug after a long week of classes! Everyone was buzzing with excitement as we gathered around tables filled with friends and laughter.

Students that attend are automatically entered into multiple raffle drawings. Oh man, the anticipation was electric! It adds an extra layer of excitement that transforms this simple meal into an event. People were crossing their fingers for awesome prizes—this semester we had the chance to win so many great prizes with two big ones… a Kitchen Aid stand mixer and a Ninja blender! The thrill of hoping your ticket number gets called while savoring some delicious food is just unbeatable. Late-night breakfasts aren’t just about filling your belly; they’re about creating memories with friends and enjoying those little moments that make CIA college life unforgettable. The best part? All the money collected goes to the Side Towel Scholarship—a scholarship established to provide students, regardless of academic standing, a resource to assist in financially tough times. If you ever get a chance to go, don’t miss it! You’ll leave full of good food and great memories.
