Hyde Park, NY, February 13, 2020 – The Culinary Institute of America announces its first online bachelor’s degree program, a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Food Business Leadership. The program is designed specifically for those with CIA associate degrees who have been working in the industry for at least four years since graduating. Applications are now being accepted for the inaugural class, to begin this September.
This convenient part-time program allows for students to complete their studies while continuing to pursue their careers. Students set their own pace of study and can complete the program from anywhere. CIA’s Food Business Leadership program opens the door to future growth and earning potential by providing the business leadership acumen today’s professionals need to excel in their careers. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, bachelor’s graduates earn 42% more than those with only an associate degree.
“The food world of today offers myriad opportunities beyond the kitchen,” says CIA President Dr. Tim Ryan. “Our associate degree graduates already have a solid foundation and real-world experience. This new program allows them to develop a deeper understanding of the business side of the equation and the convenience of earning a bachelor’s degree at their own pace.”
The online curriculum is a carefully designed mix of in-depth food- and beverage-focused management, business, and liberal arts courses exploring vital topics such as economics, sustainability of food systems, and key principles of business leadership. Knowledge gained in these courses will help graduates rise to the next level of leadership in the food industry.
“Being an entrepreneur is an integral part of becoming a chef,” says CIA bachelor’s management grad Enrique Olvera ’99, chef-owner of two of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants: Pujol in Mexico City and Cosme in New York. “The business part of a restaurant is inseparable from your dreams of cooking, and the two must align.”
CIA alumni who began pursuing advanced degrees at other colleges can apply up to 30 transfer credits from those colleges towards a faster completion of their online CIA Food Business Leadership degree.
