Five Tips to Make the Most of Your CIA Visit

Still deciding which college to apply to?  There’s no better way to find out if The Culinary Institute of America is the right fit for you than an up-close-and-personal visit to campus. It’s the perfect opportunity to:

  • Meet people who speak your language—food!
  • Taste the food students are learning to prepare
  • Walk through the campus, kitchens, bake shops, and public restaurants with a current student as your guide
  • Learn about all the many opportunities the CIA offers—different classes, internships, study abroad, sports, clubs, and activities
  • Hear from our admissions counselors about the application process and the all-important financial aid opportunities

So here are 5 Tips to Make the Most of Your Culinary Institute of America Visit.

Schedule your visit:

  1. Pick a time that’s right for you—weekdays, weekends, or even during spring break!

Check out the Admissions calendar as we offer many on-campus events for high school juniors and seniors, and transfer students, in addition to our regular open houses, many of which include a campus tour.

While you’re here:

  1. Talk to students. Campus tours will definitely give you a good sense of the college. However, think about what you are looking for in a college, and come prepared with questions to ask your student guides. You can ask them anything and they’ll tell you the truth!    
  2. Take notes and snap photos. You’ll receive a lot of information during your visit to the CIA, so the more notes you take, the more materials you grab, and the more photos you snap, the easier it is to digest and follow up on later.
  3. Imagine yourself here. Explore campus on your own and check out the things you are interested in. Want to get a firsthand look at what it’s really like to be a CIA student? Contact the Admissions Office ahead of your CIA visit so you can shadow a class, where you’ll participate shoulder-to-shoulder with CIA students. It’s so much fun!

Hanging around overnight or for the weekend?

  1. Check out one of the many local restaurants owned by CIA grads, enjoy the cultural and outdoor activities to be found in the surrounding community, and get to know the CIA’s neighbors.
