Frank Risole takes the reins as the men’s and women’s cross country coach in 2016. Frank also serves the CIA as coordinator—student health and wellness, and oversees both the fitness and recreation areas, including the intramural sports programs. Competing in the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Association, the cross country team enters its 10th season in 2016.
Coach Risole has been part of the running community from his early days of competing in track and field at the modified level. He ran varsity track and field at John Jay High School (East Fishkill, NY) where he was named captain his senior year. In 2007, he competed at the Empire State Games, where he placed 3rd in the men’s decathlon. He also finished 13th in the pentathlon at the indoor track and field national meet (National Scholastic Indoor Championships).
In college, Coach Risole competed at the Division III level at SUNY Oswego in the SUNYAC conference. He specialized in the javelin and hammer throw. He placed in the top 10 at the conference championship all four years that he competed. In his senior year, Coach Risole was voted captain by his teammates. During that season, he broke a 17-year-old record in the hammer throw, besting the previous school mark by a meter and a half.
Coach Risole continues to run, but for recreation not competition. In his leisure time, he enjoys golf and skiing, and spends much of his time focusing on personal fitness.
