CIA Students Find Relief in Group Exercise

Sweat the Stress Away

Author Madeleine White ’29 is a Food Business Management major.

CIA has a goal to create a healthy, happy, and sustainable environment for students. One of the ways this is accomplished is by offering group fitness classes held in our student recreation center. On Tuesday evenings, there is an All-Levels Yoga and Yin Yoga class that each lasts an hour. All-Levels Yoga is a combination of stretches and poses that help build strength and flexibility. Yin Yoga is all about relaxation, allowing you to have slow and controlled movements—balancing a possible busy and hectic day.

On Wednesday nights, there is a Spin Cycle class and Body Sculpt. While my personal favorite is Body Sculpt, a full body low-impact workout, the Spin Cycle class fills up quickly. Classes are voted for by the student body and can change based on student suggestions. HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) classes were very popular, before shifting to a low-impact workout like Body Sculpt.

These classes allow for a free and accessible way to work out and relieve stress. You can go at your own pace, and the instructor is there to make sure the workout is safe and positive for everyone. Many students also participate in intramural activities like our football and soccer tournaments. Along with proper exercise, The Egg dining venue always offers healthy and delicious meals to help your body recover after your workout!
