  • What to Bring to Campus

    The CIA provides each resident with an extra-long twin-size bed and mattress, dresser with four or five drawers, closet space/wardrobe unit, desk with a shelf, desk chair, wooden blinds, and combo heater & A/C unit.

    To enjoy campus life fully, students might want to bring the following items to their residence hall when moving in:

    • Bedding, linens, towels (mattresses are Twin XL, 34 inches by 80 inches)
    • Personal toiletries
    • Refrigerator (students are allowed to have one 3.5 cubic foot fridge or two 1.7 cubic foot fridge per room)
    • Microwave (.8 cubic feet and smaller)
    • Coffee maker (only allowed if it comes with automatic shut-off feature)
    • Supplies for kitchen-use: dishes, pots & pans, sponges
    • Television
    • Non-halogen desk or floor lamps
    • Area rugs
    • Hair dryer/curler
    • Computer
    • Surge protector (with a built-in fuse and reset switch—not on/off; extension cords to multi-plug adaptors *without a built in fuse* are not allowed)
    • Fan
    • Iron (with automatic/tip over shut off feature) and/or steamer
    • Hangers
    • Cleaning supplies
    • Laundry bag or basket
    • Bicycles (can be stored in the room, but there are also bike racks at each residence)

    Please note: Double rooms measure approximately 12 feet by 20 feet.

    What to Leave Home

    For safety reasons, the items listed below are not permitted in the CIA’s residence halls. This list is not all-inclusive:

    • Any furniture not issued by the CIA
    • Halogen lamps, octopus or medusa lamps
    • Coils, toasters, toaster ovens, electric grills, or any other electrical cooking or open flame devices
    • Electric blanket/electric heating pads
    • Portable heater
    • Air conditioner
    • Electric musical instruments
    • Pets or animals of any kind
    • Bed risers with built in electrical outlets
    • Extension cords/wall mount multi-plug adapters
    • Candles, incense holders/burners
    • Curtains, tapestries, flags (any type of fabric wall hangings)
