Course Bio: Art and Science of Brewing

“Tap” into brewing beer at CIA’s New York campus! In this bachelor’s program elective, you’ll work in a real brewery and craft beers to be sold at CIA’s acclaimed campus restaurants, which serve more than 330,000 customers annually. Learn the science and history of beer brewing, as well as marketing strategies used by top beer companies. This is the perfect opportunity if you plan to manage brew pubs, advance retail sales for breweries, or lead beverage programs.

  • Explore beer ingredients, the basic organic chemistry and biology of beer, and brewing equipment and techniques.
  • Learn food and beer pairing, how to maintain proper beer offerings in dining establishments and breweries, and the business of the beer industry.
  • Work on campus in the brewery at CIA, where you’ll craft the college’s two flagship brands—Cleaver IPA and Mise en Place Wit—as well as a rotating lineup of “class project” seasonal beers.
