• Orientation Activities Schedule: California Campus

    Move-In Day—Residential Students

    Dress Code: Casual Dress

    • 1–3 p.m.
      Check-in with Residence Life staff.
    • 4 p.m.
      Mandatory orientation meeting, followed by dinner.


    Your orientation will begin with check-in at 8 a.m. on Day One. The dress code is business casual and you and your guests will be provided with a continental breakfast and buffet lunch on your first day. As we near your start date, a detailed orientation schedule will be e-mailed to you by the CIA's Credit-Based Programs Coordinator.

    Here's a sampling of some of the sessions that you will experience during your first few days as a CIA student:

    • Introduction to The Culinary Institute of America at Greystone & campus tour
    • Introductions, Presentations, and Check-in Stations with various CIA offices
      Including: Safety/Security, Student Affairs, Financial Aid, Student Accounts, HR/Employment, Learning Strategies Center, Residence Life, Registrar, Career Services, Campus Store, and Career Services
    • Uniform Fittings, Guidelines & Standards
    • Knife Kit Distribution & Explanation of Tools in Kit
    • Presentations on:
      • Hygiene in the Kitchen
      • Alcohol Awareness
      • Technology on Campus
      • Explanation of Your Class Schedule
      • Learning Strategies Center: Time Management & How to Take an Exam
      • Introduction to the Fundamentals of Cooking & Flavor Dynamics
      • Student Strengths Inventory
    • Challenge Exams in Writing and/or Math
