Let’s Get Cooking! Getting Ready for Fall 2026
Congratulations on your students’ acceptance to the Culinary Institute of America! We’ve compiled answers to some of the most common questions families have as they prepare for Fall 2026.
Q: When Does the Fall 2026 Semester Begin?
The Fall 2026 semester begins on September 8, 2026. We encourage students and families to review the academic calendar for important dates, including semester start and end dates, holidays, breaks, registration deadlines, and other key academic milestones.

Q: What Can My Student Expect During Move-In?
Move-In Weekend is highly organized and supported by the Residence Life team and orientation leaders (OLs) to help students settle in smoothly.
Students will receive their official move-in date and be assigned to Team Fire or Team Sage according to their residence hall placement. Your student can find these assignments, along with key dates and housing information, in the CIA Main Menu/Student Portal.
Before Move-In
- After submitting their enrollment deposit, students should complete the housing application through the CIA Main Menu/Student Portal.
- Room assignments and roommate information are typically made available through the student portal prior to arrival.
- Students will also receive information on how to make their move-in appointment and orientation team assignment.
On Move-In Day
- Students and families will arrive on campus during their designated move-in time.
- Residence Life staff, orientation leaders, and campus volunteers will be available to provide directions, answer questions, and assist with the move-in process.
- Students will complete their room check-in, receive their room key, and meet their roommates and neighbors.
Thursday, September 3 (Team Fire—Metz Hall Move-In)
- 8 a.m.–Noon: Move-In

After Move-In
- Students will begin Orientation Weekend activities, meet their orientation leaders, attend residence hall meetings, and participate in programs designed to help them transition to life at CIA.

Tuition and Housing
Q: Is Campus Housing Available for Incoming Students?
Yes! CIA New York’s campus offers coeducational housing for more than 1,700 students across residence halls, Adirondack-style lodges, and townhouses.
New students who complete the housing process on time will be assigned a space in campus housing.

Q: What Is the Tuition Cost Breakdown for the New York Campus?
For the New York campus, tuition and required fees are separate from housing costs. Below is the per-semester cost breakdown for degree programs at Hyde Park, NY for the 2026–2027 academic year (effective July 1, 2026).

- Tuition (Full-time, 12–18 Credits): $19,755
- Board/Meal Plan (Residential): $2,595

Additional Fees
Students may also incur one-time or occasional charges, including:
- Application Fee: $50
- Orientation Fee: $275
- Supplies and Uniforms Fee (Entering Semester): $1,194
- Health Insurance: Approximately $2,100 per year (if not waived)
- Graduation Fee: $300
Important: The figures above represent direct costs billed by the college, including tuition, fees, housing, and meal plans. Your actual out-of-pocket cost may be significantly lower after scholarships, grants, and other financial aid are applied. Q: Does Tuition Include Housing?
No. Tuition and housing are billed separately.
For residential campuses, such as New York and California, housing costs are not included in tuition and are charged separately based on the residence hall and room type selected. Tuition, required fees, meal plans, and housing charges are listed as separate costs.
Please note that the CIA Texas campus does not offer student housing, so housing charges do not apply to students attending that location.

Academic Information
Q: How Long Does It Take to Complete a Degree at CIA?
The length of a CIA degree program depends on the credential your student is pursuing.
- Associate degree programs in Culinary Arts or Baking and Pastry Arts can typically be completed in about 19 months of full-time study. Students with qualifying industry experience may be able to complete their program in as little as 15 months.
- Bachelor’s degree programs at the New York campus, including Applied Food Studies, Culinary Science, Food Business Management, and Hospitality Management, can be completed in up to 38 months.
Many students begin with an associate degree and then continue directly into a bachelor’s degree program to further expand their education and career opportunities.

Q: How Can My Student Schedule an Appointment with an Admissions Counselor?
Students and families can schedule an appointment by visiting the CIA Admissions Team page. Simply select the option that best fits your needs and complete the prompts. The system will connect you with the admissions counselor who is best suited to assist your student and answer any questions about enrollment, housing, financial aid, and the transition to CIA.
Q: Can My Student Visit Campus Outside of Scheduled Tours?
Absolutely! CIA offers a variety of visit opportunities and programs throughout the year for admitted students and their families. Family Weekend
Q: When Is Family Weekend, and What Activities Are Planned?
Family Weekend will take place Friday, October 9 through Sunday, October 11. This special weekend gives families an opportunity to experience campus life, connect with the CIA community, and spend time with their students.
