Channel One News was at the Hyde Park campus in December to tape a segment featuring the CIA’s new culinary science major. Reporter Maggie Rulli observed experiments, spoke with students and faculty, and experienced some culinary science theory put to practical use during lunch in The Bocuse Restaurant.
Channel One is a division of CBS News that provides stories of interest to teenagers in a newscast sent to middle schools and high schools throughout the United States. The segment is scheduled to air this month and will be seen by five million student viewers.
The CIA launched culinary science as a bachelor’s degree major in 2013. There are currently 39 students in the growing program that prepares graduates for lucrative careers in culinary research and development, innovative restaurants, and large-scale foodservice operations.
