Writing Instructor – Adjunct Faculty

The Culinary Institute of America, San Antonio is looking to fill an Adjunct Instructor – Writing position. This course will introduce students to the principles of expository writing, including content, organization, audience, point of view, clarity, and use of evidence. Students will write, edit, and revise papers throughout the semester, and will learn how to incorporate information from outside sources

Position Summary:

Each adjunct faculty member is responsible for teaching students in his or her particular course(s) in a professional manner. The responsibilities of the position include preparing lesson plans, teaching and evaluating students, preparing and revising course guides, and other educational materials.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepares daily lesson plans for classes and teaches classes as requested and scheduled, in a manner consistent with the philosophy, policies, and guidelines of the college.
  • Provides regular and useful feedback to students in an objective, consistent, and timely manner; evaluates and documents student performance using established methods and criteria; and files course grades promptly.
  • Teaches courses as assigned and follows the schedule provided for that course, beginning on time.
  • Enforces sanitation principles (appropriate to particular teaching assignment), attendance policies, Institute's Professionalism, Uniform, and Hygiene Policy, and other academic policies.
  • Assumes responsibility for equipment and facilities of the kitchen, bakeshop, pastry shop, dining room, or classrooms.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required. Masters degree preferred.
  • Minimum two years industry experience.
  • Familiar with MS Office, PowerPoint software

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous culinary arts teaching experience preferred.
