Vice President—Academic Degree Programs

The Culinary Institute of America, the world's premier culinary college is looking to fill the position of Vice President of Academic Degree Programs.

The vice president of academic degree programs is responsible for leading and overseeing the academic degree programs offered at The Culinary Institute of America; assisting the Provost by providing leadership in academic administration and management of academic affairs. The vice president of academic degree programs will lead the implementation of a coherent and dynamic agenda for the school's academic programs, including the functions related to academic planning; the recruitment, evaluation and development of faculty; curriculum development; budgeting; student retention, learning and success; diversity and inclusion, encouraging scholarship and fostering service to the campus and academic communities.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide vision and leadership for The Institute's academic degree programs, articulating the vision of educational programs both internally and externally.
  • Oversee curriculum development, management and innovation for new and existing undergraduate programs.
  • Develop strategies to facilitate the recruitment, advancement and retention of faculty. Leads the effort to recruit excellent and diverse faculty for the Institute.
  • Direct the development of programs and resources for the evaluation, assessment and professional development of faculty.
  • Lead budgeting, allocation and fiscal management efforts within his/her defined areas of responsibility
  • Coordinate the development, implementation and assessment of programs and services that impact student success.
  • Promote the use of technology in undergraduate education, improving students' access to course material and education programming across The Institute.
  • Encourage scholarship and service to the campus and academic communities.
  • Lead cross-functional efforts across The Institute to enhance student services and programming as it relates to student success.
  • Assist in the alignment of degree program delivery across CIA's multiple campuses
  • Act as the academic liaison with other universities and colleges, and serve as a representative of the Provost's office for internal and external committees.
  • Ensure that faculty efforts relating to research are properly developed and communicated to internal and external offices.
  • Lead the teams related to education and academic support services for the Institute. Lead by example in the creation of cross-functional teams and removal of barriers for the success of the Institute.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications/Experience:

  • An earned doctorate in an appropriate field from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of five–seven years of progressively responsible academic administrative leadership in higher education.
  • Appropriate academic credentials for a senior ranking faculty appointment.
  • Demonstrated experience in effective communication that engages faculty, students, staff and administrators in collective decision making.
  • Demonstrated record of excellent interpersonal and leadership skills including support of strategic vision, partnering with academic and administrative leaders, and effective problem solving and negotiation.
  • Strong communication skills with a commitment to inclusiveness, transparency and consensus building.
  • A strong commitment to cultural diversity.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with faculty, students, administrators and staff. Ability to work collaboratively to develop a common vision and direction for faculty development and initiatives.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and conceptual skills.
  • Demonstrated team leader with a proven capacity to manage complex projects.
  • Knowledge of faculty development, and faculty recruitment and retention.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills; ability to be adaptable, dependable and handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and oral communications and presentation skills.
  • Strong computer experience, which must include abilities to work effectively with MS Office suite products, i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the field of hospitality management.
  • Experience with accreditation and the assessment of learning outcomes.
  • Strong record of teaching and scholarship.
