What is financial aid?

It’s any grant, scholarship, loan, or paid employment offered to help you meet your expenses. Grants and scholarships do not need to be paid back.

Sources include federal and state governments, CIA, foundations, corporations, individuals, and lenders.

What’s the FAFSA? How do I get aid?

The FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. The information you provide on the FAFSA helps determine your eligibility for financial aid awards.

Start by applying for admission to CIA. Then, file your FAFSA at studentaid.gov, CIA’s Federal School Code is 007304.

File your FAFSA at least six months prior to your CIA start date. If you have questions, you can contact CIA Student Financial and Registration Services to be sure of filing the appropriate forms for your entry date.

CIA may ask you for additional documentation, such as copies of IRS federal tax transcripts. Everyone should file the FAFSA! Don’t assume you won’t qualify for aid!

What’s merit- vs. need-based aid?

Merit-based aid is based on your achievements and/or academic record.

Need-based aid is based on financial need as determined by the FAFSA.

What scholarships does CIA offer?

CIA offers a variety of student scholarships—we awarded more than $48 million in 2025–2026 alone!

You’ll automatically be reviewed for merit-based scholarships upon acceptance to CIA in New York or California. Texas students must complete additional application materials.

Know a CIA graduate? Ask that person to write a recommendation letter. Submit it with your application for admission, and you’ll receive a $1,000 Alumni Referral Scholarship for your first year.

Complete tuition and fee information can be found here.

How much will I pay?

You may be surprised to learn that the “sticker price” of a CIA education may be very different from what you actually pay after you subtract the financial aid you receive.

Your aid package is specific to you—its size and makeup is determined by your financial need, merit rating, and the availability of funds.
