Orientation Activities Schedule: California Campus
Move-In Day for Residential Students
Dress Code: Casual Dress
- 1–3 p.m.
Check-in with Residence Life Staff
- 4 p.m.
Mandatory Orientation Meeting, followed by Dinner
Orientation
Your orientation will begin with check-in at 8 a.m. on Day One. The
dress code is business casual and you and your guests will be provided
with a continental breakfast and buffet lunch on your first day. As we
near your start date, a detailed orientation schedule will be e-mailed
to you by the CIA's Credit-Based Programs Coordinator.
Here's a sampling of some of the sessions that you will experience during your first few days as a CIA student:
- Introduction to The Culinary Institute of America at Greystone & Campus Tour
- Introductions, Presentations, and Check-in Stations with Various CIA Offices
Including:
Safety/Security, Student Affairs, Financial Aid, Student Accounts,
HR/Employment, Learning Strategies Center, Residence Life, Registrar,
Career Services, Campus Store, and Career Services
- Uniform Fittings, Guidelines & Standards
- Knife Kit Distribution & Explanation of Tools in Kit
- Presentations on:
- Hygiene in the Kitchen
- Alcohol Awareness
- Technology on Campus
- Explanation of Your Class Schedule
- Learning Strategies Center: Time Management & How to Take an Exam
- Introduction to the Fundamentals of Cooking & Flavor Dynamics
- Student Strengths Inventory
- Challenge Exams in Writing and/or Math
