Hi my name is Theresa and I'm from Mechanicsville, Virginia. I graduated from the A.O.S program for Culinary Arts in May of 2007 and am currently enrolled in the Bachelor's program for Culinary Arts Management. I found my love for food when I was very young, spending time in the kitchen with my mom and my grandmother. Both my mother and grandmother love to cook and they were happy to help me learn. Their help allowed me to grow and discover new ideas. When I started working in the kitchen, before I attended school, I realized how much my family influenced and nurtured my love for food.
I completed my externship at the Trellis in Williamsburg, Virginia. I had a wonderful experience because I was able to use the skills I had learned in school to work at the restaraunt. The Trellis allowed me work many different stations in the facility and I was able to learn so much about areas I had never worked in before. My externship was truly a great experience for me because I gained so much knowledge and understanding of the industry that I love.
The Culinary Institute is a wonderful place to learn and grow. The faculty are eager to teach and are very skilled at what they do.Our school is set up a bit differently and is a bit fast paced; however, classes build on one another. This allows for students to progress through the program. I love attending the CIA because I am doing what I love to do which is cook, and learn about food. I am now in the B.P.S program which is different from the A.O.S in that we are learning about the root of a business and how to manage a future restaurant. This school is a wonderful opportunity to excel in the culinary or baking and pastry arts and to find what you love.
Good luck with your college search and please feel free to email me any questions you may have!
